Philco 37 610
Просмотров 1572 месяца назад
This Philco was a popular model and a top seller in 1937. Its faux finish, however, did not hold up well and many were destined for the garage after a few years This was one that had lost its finish. New veneer on the front and an updated chassis brought it back. I think it was worth saving. A great performer. Hope you agree. Frankie Lane Rawhide

Zenith 6S-128 (1937)

Picked this 6 tube black dial up at an estate auction over 10 years ago for $20. I replaced the filters and a couple of tubes, new cloth line cord and plug, fused, refinished the cabinet, and replaced the grill cloth but decided to leave it to work on other projects. This winter has been a bit slow so I pulled it out, replaced all the remaining caps, a couple of resistors, replaced the tuning g...

Just finished the 808 before it snowed. Expecting an additional 6 inches this week. While I enjoy restoring them, I also enjoy sitting by the fire listening to some vintage winter songs on this classic Deco set. Hope you have a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. Jo Stafford Let It Snow

Zenith 7S-529

A classic Zenith black dial from 1941. Upgraded power transformer, new wiring, caps and so much more. This little Zenith has looks and sound with loads of tone and volume with its seven tubes.and numerous tone settings. Give a listen if you have the time. Frank at his best and as always - he did it his way.
Sparton 537 (1937)

It's hard to say what in a radio attracts my attention enough to spend so many hours restoring it. One of the factors is its dial. This Sparton fits that amazing dial category for me - especially lit up at night. What history has this 1937 seen. I can imagine it giving information to its listening family about WWII. I would imagine it played the WWII classic by Vera Lynn: "We'll Meet Again." At...
GE K-60 (1934)

Just finished this mid sized GE. Good performing radio with its 5 inch speaker and unique cabinet design. Missing some trim but otherwise needing the customary chassis overhaul and cabinet work.. Compact chassis with all the components crammed in tight No room for a switch and jack for added input. Playing a tune from my transmitter. Give a listen if you have the time. Truetone D 1015 (1942)

Truetone was the private label for Western Auto Supply Company of Kansas City, Missouri. Truetones were never produced by Western Auto but, like many private brands, were made by companies that manufactured products for national or regional retail chains. Compact in size but great Art Deco looks this little fellow needed lots of TLC. Broken cabinet from someone trying to stuff a large replaceme...
Philco 20 deluxe (1931)

Just finished up this Philco model 20. A very popular and affordable table model in 1931. I think it still is popular today 90 plus years after it was introduced. Give a listen to: Paul Whiteman and his orchestra - Happy Feet. Also a popular show tune in 1930.

A test in patience to bring this Stewart Warner back. Needed trim pieces replaced with cabinet and chassis work to be done. Worth the effort though. Love the looks and performance of this early Stewart Warner. Happy Feet Paul Whiteman

I have one. I love the design; it's like a gothic church.

When a radio was also a beautiful piece of furniture.
와.... 이런건 어디서 구해요? 옛날 분위기가 풍기네요.. 구할 수 있다면 꼭 사고싶어요
Another beautiful radio. Thanks for sharing. Best, Don
Thanks Don!
Armand - another beauty my friend. I’m always excited to see another radio in your wonderful collection. Happy New Year. Best, Don
Thanks Don. Love the Deco style of this model. Hope you and family have a wonderful New Year. Armand
They're a beautiful collection, and I'm old enough to have listened to a number of them. Listening to shortwave channels was really an introduction to the entire world. And our old RCA standup did a darn good job of heating the room when the radiators lost pressure or froze. :)
Where or what does the sound come from?
An AM transmitter.
Armand - another beautiful radio in your collection and it sounds amazing as well. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Best, Don
Thanks Don. Enjoyed bringing it back. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours. Armand
Nice! Very nice example of a Classic Zenith Black Dial and fully restored inside and out to boot. Sinatra, Dick Haymes and others along with the big bands likely played through the speaker of your Zenith 7S-529 throughout the War Years and later. How neat is that! I collect, restore and repair vacuum tube radios of all kinds and classic tube HiFI equipment as well. P.S. I am a major fan of Sinatra..the chairman. Just got through listening to Frank singing "Summer Wind" through my Mac MC-75 Mono Blocks ... It doesn't get any better. Cheers my man
Thank you. A big fan of Sinatra myself. A challenge to restore but worth the effort. Appreciate your comments.
what is the name of the song being played?

@@armandcorpolongo thanks
Armand - really nice! The cabinet is very attractive and the large Sparton dial makes it a eye catcher. Thanks for sharing. All the best. Don
Thanks Don. My first Spartan and was pretty impressed with it’s performance as well. Take care Armand
Bring back pretty good old days , sir. Thank so very much for sharing. "wonderful"
Thank you.
Beautiful!
Thanks
I also have a couple of those GE/RCA reproduction radios and I love them. I wish I had an original J-100, that one is beautiful.
❤
Armand - spectacular job! My dad just recently gifted his 5S127 to my sister. Just curious, is the cabinet front facing veneer, solid wood or a faux finish? Again, a fine job and another display of your talent. Best, Don
Thanks Don. Saw the 5s you will be restoring. Great radios. It is wood not faux. Love the black dial Zenith sets. Good to hear from you. Take care Armand
Very nice! Thanks for sharing…Take Care-Larry
Thanks Larry
gorgeous! Well done. :)
Thank you! 😊
👌🏻❤️
How much price this radio hold on
My home is decorated with oder radios and furniture mixed with some more modern stuff. It takes me back to my parents childhood or earlier and every day when I walk in the door I feel at leace and even get a slight whiff of the patina. My neighbors like to come around just to see it. Ironically IUMO. my furniture never gets "old", I just keep having to avoid adding unless I sell ore trade.
Fantastic Zenith and a timely song. Thank you. It's a beautiful radio and great fidelity. I can imagine someone listening to all the old greats back in the late 30's.
Thank you for your comments and glad you enjoyed it!
❤
Very nice 👍 radios 📻. They just do not make them like 👍 that anymore. I just subbed to your RUclips channel!! Please 🙏 keep these FANTASTIC radio 📻 videos coming!! Your friend, Jeff!!
Thanks. I enjoy restoring them.
We hope to see another video about the vintage retro radios in the 20,s , thanks but please soon because this video is very old and we have seen it many times.. Thanks
Gorgeous!
Beautiful! Although I have to admit I was looking for antique radios in the background.
Thanks. Good idea. Never know what will show up in these videos. A Stewart Warner coming soon.
Lovely and so is your home.
Thank you
No way was that music coming from the radio, right ? Does not sound like it
That is the radio playing.
It is the most beautiful cathedral radio I have seen also.. Lucky you and it sounds stunning too. Love it and you have an amazing collections.. Good for you glad to see people appreciate these gems. I have large deforest Cathedral have not plugged it in for 30 years did once back them and heard a hum the channel came on and I shut it off and looked at the wires etc in the back and thought WTH was I thinking? I can imagine they are an arm and a leg to get it repaired. OH well I will keep on dusting it and maybe someday get it fixed. Thanks for sharing

Armand - another great looking and sounding receiver. I’m amazed you keep find these gems. Again, thank you for sharing them with us. Best, Don
Thanks Don. Found this one at our Fall auction. Needed lots of TLC but good project radio for those cold Kansas winters.
Armand - another great restoration on your part and what a beautiful cabinet design in addition it being a fine sounding receiver. Well done! Best, Don
Thanks Don. Another restoration journey but I ended up really liking this set.
😃background music ,perfect matched.
Armand - another spectacular radio in your collection. The wood veneers make this Zenith pop and it’s sounds great too. Hope you’re doing well and thanks for sharing. All the best. Don
Thanks Don! It had a lot of issues but turned out better than I expected. All is well and hope the same for you. Armand
@@armandcorpolongo Doing good. Again, excellent job! Best, Don
I am looking for an original back for one.
Armand, You continue to be the king of radio restoration. I am still enjoying the Philco Model 66 from 2 years ago! It is a marvelous beauty indeed! Merry Christmas! Rick Atwood
Thank you Rick. I do enjoy those Philco radios and glad to hear yours is still going strong. Merry Christmas and have a happy and healthy New Year. Armand
Very nice radio. Mine is a strong SW performer and one of my favorites of my collection.
Thank you. Amazing how good they sound! One of my favorites as well.
The song was called”sleigh ride”. Who is singing this song in the video showing the Philco 1942 sled radio please.?
Who recorded the song that was playing in that video please. That looked like a nice radio.
Jo Stafford
Another beauty, and a great song choice! I just restored a Silvertone 7057 from 1941 with the crumbing wire, so I know how much work it is! Definitely worth saving.
Thank you. Definitely worth the effort!
Armand - a great looking and sounding radio in addition to your excellent video editing, which is very fitting for the season. Just curious, did you have to replace all of the rubber wiring? Merry Christmas! Best, Don
Thanks Don. As you know many radios from this period used rubber wiring that did not hold up well. This Philco suffered from the same problems. Replaced and sleeved about half of it. Time consuming but well worth the effort at least in my opinion. Happy holidays to you and yours.
@@armandcorpolongo I’ve got many Philco’s I’ve been putting off for that reason. All the best. Don
Armand - another beauty and sounds great playing… The chassis looks like new too. Thanks for sharing. Best, Don
Thanks Don. I had to rewind an IF coil and your videos were valuable reference tools.
@@armandcorpolongo I’m glad you were successful and kept another one playing. Best, Don
Armand - what a cool and rare find. The transformation is stunning and I know you have to be well pleased with the outcome. If you don’t mind me asking, where did you find this beauty? Hope you’re doing well and thanks again for sharing your collection with us. Take care and all the best. Don
Thanks Don I appreciate your comments. I haave had this radio on my wish list for a very long time. This one showed up in an Ebay auction and came from a dealer that I had done business with a few times over the years. Very reputable and honest. The radio actually came from a barn find in Hinsdale, New Hampshire. I was very fortunate to find it and to also purchase it. It always helps to have a little luck in collecting.
